Vicente Pérez Checa
The foundations of a tradition.
Vicente Perez Checa was born in Baza on February 10, 1932, in the first months of the Second Spanish Republic.
He received his training from Alfonso Checa Plaza, an uncle on his mother’s side, passionate about making artisan guitars.
At the age of 12 he began to learn the guitar trade and later, he began his journey to Barcelona to work in the workshop of Enrique Sanfeliu, one of the most important traditional craftsmen in the country at that time.
In 1959 he returned to Baza where he set up his workshop. From here, he built and worked for Enrique Sanfeliu and Antonio Dotras Córdoba, the main Catalan builders, as well as for different stores throughout the Spanish geography and for sale at Calle Agua Nº 22
Much of his work is spread throughout Spain and the world due to his full dedication to high-quality handcrafted construction of classical and flamenco guitars, bandurrias, lauds laudines, mandolins, bandurrines, Murcian guitarro (typical of the bands of souls of Murcia), bass guitars and also custom instruments to suit the client.
His early dedication and daily work made him establish himself as a high-quality luthier for those who have played his instruments.
Jesús Perez Vallejo
Promoting a legacy
Jesús Pérez was born in Baza, on February 4, 1973, into a guitar family.
Son of Vicente Pérez Checa and María Jesús Vallejo.
He is part of the guitar dynasty, being the third generation with respect to a family of great builders (Alfonso Checa, Vicente Pérez Checa). He began his guitar studies at the Baza Conservatory.
He carried out the musical direction of different groups of the plectro bastetano.
Jesús begins to learn the trade of a craftsman from a young age in his father’s workshop, who passes on all his wisdom and passion for the noble trade of guitar making.
In 1997, he took over the reins of his workshop and until now, he continues to make classical, flamenco, bandurria, lute, lute, Murcian guitarrón, Murcian guitar or timple guitars. His techniques include polyurethane varnishing and dolly (on request).
For his craftsmanship, he has received the distinction of “Craftsman” and “Craftsmanship made in Andalusia” by the Junta de Andalucía.
His guitars are made to suit the client and given his interest in perfection, he has fostered the tireless study of the mysteries and ins and outs of this noble trade.
Jesús continues with his Baza workshop where he attends to any client, with orders to this day, promoting an artisan legacy and family history.
